Bio

John C. Lee has been active in the areas of nuclear reactor physics and engineering since 1969. Following his undergraduate study at Seoul National University and graduate study at the University of California, Berkeley, he worked at Westinghouse Electric Corporation and General Electric Company for five years. He has been on the faculty of the University of Michigan since 1974 and served as the Chair of the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences Panel on Separations Technology and Transmutation Systems and the U.S. Department of Energy Technical Working Group for Generation IV Nuclear Energy Systems, and has served as a consultant to a number of organizations including the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Among his publications is a textbook, Risk and Safety Analysis of Nuclear Systems, Wiley (2011), coauthored with N. J. McCormick. He is a Fellow of the American Nuclear Society.
